Potty Chair Challenge

Okay, here's the scoop on the potty chair. We haven't been doing it. Well, consistently anyway. We have had a few hit and miss instances. I didn't want to really start it until after our baby arrived, but then we were back in the hospital and life seemed so up, down, back and forth for Georgia I didn't want to push it. But now I feel like it's time.

But Georgia is allergic to the potty chair; she hates it. Once in a while we can get her to sit on it without crying. And occasionally she'll actually go potty (never #2 though).

But today I'm trying something new. Recently I bought her some big girl panties, hoping that would be good incentive and today we're trying them out. (They are huge, by the way. The smallest size was 2T/3T and Georgia is still wearing 18 mo. Can we say saggy-bottom droopy drawers?) I keep reminding her that she is not wearing a diaper and so she has to tell me if she has to go potty. Of course I do plan to take her on my own too. I'm kind of nervous and a little skeptical as to how she'll do. I know we'll have some accidents along the way, and that's fine, I can live with that. (Which, by the way, how do you clean pee out of carpet? Suggestions, please.)

It'll be nice to have only one child in diapers. On the plus side, I imagine that all the running back and forth will help me lose some of this baby weight.

What do you know...before I can even hit 'publish post' there's pee on the floor...

  1. I know what it is like to have 2 in diapers and to desperately want to get one out of them. But seriously, if she hates it, it is not worth it to push her. If she pees a million times a day for more than a couple days and still hates it, I'd wait (my opinion after training 3 and working on #4).
Oh, and our girl still won't poop in the potty consistently.

And I'm with you on the underwear. Ours can barely keep them up!

  2. We went through the "awake forever in bed" phase, too. It seems to come and go still. And I'm with Jenny on the diaper thing. I had three in diapers, and honestly, I just didn't have it in me to sit by the potty all day! So I waited until they were really ready. I clung to the promise that they would NOT go to kindergarten in diapers! :) And they didn't.

  3. I think she's still young enough that unless she's especially interested in potty training, you shouldn't push it. It works best when it's something they want to do. But it doesn't hurt to see if you can help her take an interest!
    Good luck!
Oh-- and as far as cleaning the carpet, I usually just use a plain old soapy rag and scrub it.

  4. As our girls so kindly pointed out to us they may not be ready when we want them to be. Make sure she is showing signs of being ready like knowing she's wet or dirty, requesting things. Make sure you talk about all the people that use the potty. Reward for sitting potty and then reward huge when successful. Girls liked books on the potty. We had to hang out in the kitchen with potty training. When my girls were more successful we moved the potty back to the potty room. Ps Elmos potty time movie.

  5. Since we have a furry little monster romping around the house, we've had quite a few accidents... we use Natures Miracle to get out the stains and odor. I'm sure it will work for Georgia too.

  6. vinegar and water (equal parts) gets rid of odors.
