To celebrate, we asked Andy's parents to come and stay with Georgia OVERNIGHT so that we could use a bed and breakfast gift certificate. (Finally. I've only had it for over a year.) But as much as I looked forward to using it, I knew I'd have to face the dreaded: First Night Without Baby. Yes, it was a little heart-breaking...but yes, I got over it. We stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast in Maquoketa; built in the 1880s and fully furnished with antiques, yet also some nice modern amenities. Our room had a Swiss shower, which was awesome. You can rinse both armpits at the same time.
They left heart shaped cakes on our bed as an anniversary gift, served a late night dessert, and a scrumptious breakfast (which was only an hour's worth of semi-awkward conversation). All in all we LOVED the experience. We also got a magnificent tour of a local art gallery (the artist's work is showcased in the Smithsonian in DC) and visited an antique mall owned by the same folks who run the B&B. It was fabulous! Here are a couple of shots of our room, called Opal's Parlor, and the exterior of the house:
So...I only cried once. Well one and a half times. The tears started falling as soon as we got into the car, but were dry before we hit the interstate. When I called to check in, my mother-in-law told me G had been totally fine and only one little tear rolled after I got off the phone. I'm sorry, but I am sensitive!
It was the perfect little getaway. I think two nights would have been too much for our first time away from Georgia. We were glad to have had some alone time and our return home brought us back refreshed and greeted by a little girl who really did miss us.
I hate to admit I totally forgot your anniversary this year! :[ But I'm glad to hear you had a good time celebrating!
