Look Out...Here She Comes!

I'm sure it won't be much longer and she'll be taking steps on her own! Though, I shouldn't get too ahead of myself considering she's only been crawling for a few weeks. Not to mention the fact it took 13 1/2 months for her to do that!

I was actually quite surprised that she could walk with this little push toy. The first time she did it, she pushed forward, but her feet stayed in place. Thankfully I caught her before she did a face-plant to the floor. I waited awhile and tried again this past weekend and she did great!

I love her little chattering while she pushes along. :)

Anniversary

Andy and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary last Saturday. Where, oh where, has the time gone? It flies.

To celebrate, we asked Andy's parents to come and stay with Georgia OVERNIGHT so that we could use a bed and breakfast gift certificate. (Finally. I've only had it for over a year.) But as much as I looked forward to using it, I knew I'd have to face the dreaded: First Night Without Baby. Yes, it was a little heart-breaking...but yes, I got over it. We stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast in Maquoketa; built in the 1880s and fully furnished with antiques, yet also some nice modern amenities. Our room had a Swiss shower, which was awesome. You can rinse both armpits at the same time.

They left heart shaped cakes on our bed as an anniversary gift, served a late night dessert, and a scrumptious breakfast (which was only an hour's worth of semi-awkward conversation). All in all we LOVED the experience. We also got a magnificent tour of a local art gallery (the artist's work is showcased in the Smithsonian in DC) and visited an antique mall owned by the same folks who run the B&B. It was fabulous! Here are a couple of shots of our room, called Opal's Parlor, and the exterior of the house:

So...I only cried once. Well one and a half times. The tears started falling as soon as we got into the car, but were dry before we hit the interstate. When I called to check in, my mother-in-law told me G had been totally fine and only one little tear rolled after I got off the phone. I'm sorry, but I am sensitive!

It was the perfect little getaway. I think two nights would have been too much for our first time away from Georgia. We were glad to have had some alone time and our return home brought us back refreshed and greeted by a little girl who really did miss us.

Time for Precautions

Do you think it's time to raise the crib-rail and take down the mobile? :)

Pigs Are Flying

Well....not really, but Georgia is crawling! We were starting to think she'd skip this phase altogether and go right to walking; however, here she is, like she knew exactly what to do the whole time.

(Pay no attention to the dirty carpet. My cleaning lady had the day off.)

Remembering

Two years ago today I had a miscarriage. I remembered this last night as I was laying in bed. It brought back memories surrounding that event, along with all the thoughts and feelings I experienced in the days after. Time has brought a lot of healing, but I'm even surprised myself to find that I still hurt over this.

I remember feeling extremely low and disappointed; though not depressed nor mad at God. I was angry, but I didn't know where to direct my anger. Andy was hurting with me, but it just wasn't the same. I didn't feel like I could help him to understand what I was thinking and feeling. It seemed so unfair. We would be good parents and we wanted our baby. He would be well taken care of by us. Why couldn't we have him? Confusion filled my mind and heart for a long time. My sweet sister-in-law called me weekly, knowing what I was going through, and let me just ramble about my short pregnancy, why I was upset, what I was feeling. She let me just talk to her about my baby. That was the best therapy and I am so grateful to her. She sent me the song Glory Baby by Watermark, which to this day makes me cry. But the tears remove frustration and lift burdens and it, too, was good therapy.

It's hard to imagine that Andy and I have a sweet baby in heaven that we don't know and have never met. What would he have been like on this earth? What kind of character would he have; what would his interests be? Andy felt strongly that the baby was a boy and so we gave him a name, but it is ours to keep.

Shortly after the miscarriage, a woman from church approached me after the service and said, "Lacey, when Andy walked into the room today, I could only think one word: Daddy." I started to cry and told her our story. I found out two weeks later that I was pregnant again. Joy filled my heart, but fear too. By wanting this baby did that mean I didn't want the one we lost? Or by wanting the one we lost, did that mean I didn't love this one the same? I didn't want to choose. In a perfect world I would have them both. Now Georgia is here and I can't imagine life without her.

Miscarriages are hard. It was one of the most difficult things I have had to endure. They are more common than we think. For those women who have also experienced a miscarriage, I hope that God restores you and brings peace to your soul. He has to mine.

Spring

Hasn't the weather just been gorgeous? Even when it rains, I am just praising the Lord that it isn't snow. The tulips that my parents helped me plant a few years ago are in bloom again. They are diverse in color and each unique; a perfect reminder of what an imaginative Creator we have. They are so pretty! We also enjoyed having some daffodils just in time for Easter and soon enough it will be irises, daisies and lilies.

I thought I had better get out and take a few snapshots of the vivid colors of the tulips while I could. So I grabbed the camera and my little spring chick and we headed outside to sit in the sun for awhile.

The pictures aren't the best Georgia has ever taken, but in her defense, she couldn't look up at me because the sun was too bright and she was scared of the next-door neighbor mowing his lawn. But the flowers are pretty and it was a beautiful day to be out of doors!

Cousins! Part II

I thought it well worth noting that I was RIGHT about my sister-in-law's baby...it is a GIRL! We are so excited to have another niece in the family.

I am usually never right about these things, so of course I'm totally bragging. Oh yes, I knew all along it was a girl; there was never a doubt in my mind. Ok, I think my first-born syndrome is starting to take over...
